The Teachers

Grace Hayes (Ms. Hayes) hails from Loganville, Georgia, but was born in Baltimore and later moved to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and then Georgia. She began her teaching career in Baltimore as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. She spent 5 years at Samuel Coleridge Taylor Elementary (#122) and then moved to Georgia where she taught 5th grade for 4 years, 6th grade for 5 years, 1 year as an 8th grade teacher, and 1 year at SBCS. Can you believe it- sixteen years? If you saw her you wouldn't believe it- she looks so young!

She is now delighted to be back in Baltimore teaching and enjoying the crab cakes which she has missed for the past 10 years. Ms. Hayes currently holds a B.S degree from Penn State University, a M.A.T from Coppin State University, an Ed.S from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee, and is currently working on an Ed.D from Argosy University in Atlanta. She loves teaching and learning!

In her spare time (what's that?), She enjoys reading her Bible and learning about God's purpose for her life, bowling, eating crab cakes (when she can find someone to cook them for her), and movies; especially comedies. Laughter is therapy to the soul. She looks forward to an exciting and rewarding adventure here at SBCS this year.

Abby Yunker (Ms. Yunker)is happy to be joining SBCS for her second year, teaching fourth grade again. This will be her fourth year teaching in the city. She moved from Indiana four years ago and despite being in Raven's territory, continues to be a devout Indianapolis Colts fan. Miss Abby is taking on a new challenge this year in co-teaching with Ms. Lightbourne. She is excited for the new experience. Miss Abby is looking forward to this school year and is excited to teach and explore the new expeditions.

Priscilla Lightbourne (Ms. Lightbourne)was born just outside of Chicago, but has lived in many parts of the United States including Arizona, Massachusetts, California, Oregon and now Maryland. She has a degree in music from the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and a masters in teaching from the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon. This will be her 11th year in the classroom and she is so grateful and happy to not only be a teacher, but to be teaching and learning at SBCS. She has two children (twins, now 27) who bring her immense pleasure and of whom she is most proud. Her interests include musical theatre, dancing, reading and playing the piano.
