Our Vision: SBCS is a vibrant, rigorous school of active learners at the heart of a thriving Southwest Baltimore community.
Our Mission: To empower each student to achieve authentic academic success by harnessing the kindness, cooperation, and trust of faculty, family, and community.
The following tenets have guided our development of curricula and school culture:
- Differentiated instruction to meet children where they are and move them forward
- Experiential learning designed to allow children to use all their senses to construct and retain knowledge
- School-wide, thematic units that will both foster academic community and allow for in-depth study of a topic from many facets and perspectives
- Social capital curriculum designed to develop the educational, professional, and personal networks of students and families in the southwest Baltimore community
- Choice Theory, an approach to behavior management that teaches children to be intrinsically rather than extrinsically motivated, and guides children in making choices that will lead to personal success.
Approved by the Southwest Baltimore Charter School Board of Directors in October 2007.
Southwest Baltimore Charter School is pleased to announce that we will be one of two education organizations to be honored at the inaugural Baltimore Next Generation Investing Event on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 4:00 PM. at the University of Maryland Baltimore SMC Campus Center. Guests will have an opportunity to hear the investment picks of prominent buy-side professionals who rarely share their specific stock ideas in a public forum.
